Often the program centers on the use of light as language. Light as a storytelling device. Often mixed in is the notion of durability, and encountering not only changes within the industry and technology, but also the challenges of working under pressure, in constrained environments, or with limited time. I talk about the use of the tools we have—color, gels, lighting, camera work—and how those mechanics have to integrate with the photographer’s heart, mind, and sense of relentless curiosity about people and the world.
