Description

New York City is claustrophobic. It’s crowded, congested, and always busy. Space is at a premium, and one of the places where every square inch of real estate matters most is in New York’s jazz clubs. Patrons are packed into listening rooms like sardines with the musicians close enough to touch. Many of these clubs do not have proper stage lighting, which compounds an already challenging situation presented to a concert photographer. But beautiful images are there for the making, and in this lecture I will teach you my methods for creating images that are authentic, replete with emotion, and eschew convention, all captured in some of the smallest and darkest clubs around town. We will discuss the best gear to use, etiquette when working with musicians in close quarters, planning for success, and the importance of knowing the right time to press the shutter. The methods we learn will help make your concert photos better in the dark club or dive bar in your own town.
